Charta Oecumenica is a joint document between the European churches, signed on 22 April 2001 by the then President of the Commission of European Churches (CEC), Metropolitan Jeremi and the President of the Council of European Catholic Bishops’ Conferences, Cardinal Miloslav Vlk.
Charta Oecumenia has played an important role in European ecumenical work for more than two decades. In 2022, the CEC and the Catholic Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) decided to revise this important document to ensure that it remains relevant in modern times. A joint CEC/CCEE working group will update the document, taking into account the changing circumstances of European society and Christians.
The working group invites all churches, Christian communities and those interested in the document to consult the draft text and submit comments and suggestions by 31 December 2024 at charta@cec-kek.be. Responses can be sent in English, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish (languages of the CEC and CCEE constituencies).
